The Matadors have become a favorite on Thursday Night Throwdown, where they staged dramatic wins over Randall (14 to 7) and Andrews (28 to 20). In both fourth quarters, the Mats accounted for five touchdowns- while both opponents had zero. However last week, it was Estacado’s defense that came in clutch late in the game, as they held off the Levelland Lobos 20-13.
“Football is played in all four quarters. You can have a good half and then you go out there and not stack on that good half, but you want to go out there and just play when it matters the most because it’s four quarters,” said head coach Eric Ward. “You want to play all four quarters and the fourth quarter you want to be as strong as possible.”
The Perryton Rangers come in with a 3-4 record, which includes wins over Pampa, Hereford, and otherwise-unbeaten Dalhart. The Rangers are lead by QB Cooper Schilling, who has thrown for 13 touchdowns and has rushed for nine more. Head coach Joshua Hernandez is at his second year coaching Perryton.
Tonight’s showdown gets underway 7 p.m. at Lowrey Field. KMYL My Lubbock TV is free antenna channels 14.1/22.2, Optimum 6, Dish Network 14, DirecTV 14, UVerse 1014, Vexus 706.
