Area communities including Plano, Yorkville, and Oswego Township are reminding residents about snowfall ordinances that prohibit street parking after at least 2 inches of snow has fallen.

Plano City Hall says that in recent years there has been better compliance with the rule, which is meant to give city plows enough room to clear roads, but it wants to make sure everyone knows the guidelines. The rule stays in effect until 24 hours after the snowfall ends, or until the road has been plowed.

Other communities have similar ordinances on the books. Oswego Township, which includes Boulder Hill, says it will be enforcing the public safety ordinance with a zero-tolerance policy and will tow vehicles in violation at the owner’s expense. The restriction stays in place until the lane nearest the curb has been plowed.

Violations of the ordinance in Plano start at $55 and can go up to $250. Yorkville City Hall says the first violation in the city is $50.
