1 UT-Arlington Criminology and Criminal Justice students —

Congratulations to the students of the UT-Arlington Criminology and Criminal Justice Department for helping solve a 34-year-old murder case. Kudos to the college department and the Arlington Police for launching a cold-case partnership that offered the students a real-world learning experience that netted solid results and benefited both groups.

Having been a University of Dallas MBA Capstone student and a mentor to pharmacy and chemistry majors in my corporate career, I am a proponent of professional-school partnerships. It is a great blend of professionals, who are often time-strapped, collaborating with students who bring a fresh perspective and dedicated time to home in on the details and connect the evidence. May this partnership program’s first real-world success encourage others to form similar partnerships and mentoring programs.

2 Morning News journalism — As an avid consumer of journalism in all forms, I have lamented the smaller footprint of daily and local newspapers for a long time now. You all make the most of your space. In the eight pages of Section A, on a Tuesday no less, I read two long-form articles on critical topics: vaccines and public health (cheers for staff writer Emily Brindley) and the U.N./U.S. plan for Gaza. Then there was an excellent Opinion piece that educated me on 50-year mortgages, an editorial on local election participation and some great letters to the editor.

Virtually everything you published interested me. You provided help and information for my community within the eight pages of Section A. I am so very grateful to live in a city with a newspaper with an intellectual and moral conscience.

3 Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer — What a beautiful picture of love on the front page on Nov. 15. The photo of Schottenheimer hugging Dallas Cowboys teammate Donovan Wilson at practice was very touching and showed the heart of the Dallas Cowboys coach. His heartfelt pain over the tragic and untimely death of Marshawn Kneeland is touching and has shown through in the days since that sad and tragic event.
