Adoree’ Jackson began to walk off the field at AT&T Stadium but before he made it to the sideline, he tossed off his helmet in frustration.
It was a scary scene.
But the Eagles’ veteran cornerback didn’t suffer a concussion and is fully expected to play on Friday afternoon when the Eagles host the Bears in a Black Friday game.
“Hit my head on the turf kind of hard so more of like a precautious thing,” Jackson said. “Especially because I just had me one (a concussion) like two weeks ago. That’s pretty much what was going on.”
On the sideline in Dallas during the third quarter, Jackson was checked for a concussion and then it was decided that he wouldn’t not return for precautionary reasons. The 30-year-old corner missed the Giants game back in Week 8 with a concussion. So when he hit his head again on Sunday, he was understandably frustrated.
That’s why he tossed his helmet off his head leaving the field.
“When I hit my head, I already knew,” Jackson said. “I was just more frustrated that’s how it went. It was more like some freak s–. I was fighting for the ball, I turn around and I still don’t even know how I got to the point where I’m twirling and I just smack and hit my head on the ground.
“So I was more frustrated that that happened and for the fact that I knew I hit it, it was something to figure out what’s going on. That was more of my frustration because just competing, having fun within the game and how the game was going for me to just hit my head and come out. I was more frustrated with how things transpired for me more than anything.”
To begin this week, the Eagles listed Jackson as a full participant in practice with an unusual designation: Gameday concussion protocol evaluation. Jackson was removed from the injury report on Wednesday and should be good to go against the Bears.
While the Eagles have been trying to figure out their CB2 position all season, the veteran Jackson has started to bring some stability to that spot in recent weeks. So it’s a good thing to have him ready to go in a battle of 8-3 teams on Friday afternoon.
After Jackson banged his head on the turf in Dallas, he went into the blue tent to be evaluated for a concussion. They asked him how he was feeling and went through the full assessment. Then they came to a joint decision to keep him out for the rest of the game.
A big part of that decision was the fact that Jackson missed the Eagles’ Week 8 game against the Giants with a concussion.
“I had like one literally three weeks ago,” Jackson said. “So I know if I hit my head and playing fast and throwing my body around, I’m not about to go in there and do it again. You know what I mean? It could have been worse. I go back out there and I do some s— and now it’s something else and now I’m out. Like out, out. It’s just one of those situations where we were both being precautious because of the situation.”
Jackson was one of three defensive backs the Eagles lost during that game. Veteran safety Reed Blankenship suffered a thigh injury on the same drive as the injury to Jackson and couldn’t return. And then later in the game, rookie safety Drew Mukuba suffered a fractured ankle.
After Jackson left the game, the Eagles moved Cooper DeJean to outside cornerback and played Michael Carter II at the nickel spot. Having Jackson healthy for Friday should bring some stability to the secondary.
While Mukuba landed on IR after having surgery on Wednesday, Blankenship and Jackson are expected to play against the Bears on Friday.
And Jackson felt pretty good in the Eagles’ only practice of the week on Wednesday.
“I felt good. It’s been a nice week I would say,” Jackson said. “The short weeks are always the worst but best weeks in a sense. Because you kind of get rest but then you kind of don’t. … Today was good to get out there and move around and actually put my body with my brain in a sense with what I’ve been seeing in film and walkthroughs.”
Without Mukuba, the Eagles are expected to start veteran Sydney Brown in his place on Friday. But at least they’ll have Jackson and the rest of the starters.
While the CB2 position has been shaky for a lot of the 2025 season, Jackson has done a pretty good job to stabilize it in recent weeks. He has earned the right to be back there on Friday afternoon.
