When it comes to high school football in Central Texas, Class 6A rules. That was proven Friday when Lake Travis, Dripping Springs and defending 6A Division II state champion Vandegrift all advanced to the DII regional finals with resounding victories in the third round of the 2025 state playoffs.

The area’s two remaining Class 5A teams, Weiss and Bastrop, were eliminated from the playoffs Saturday. Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill defeated Weiss 34-31 in overtime while Bastrop suffered an 83-20 loss to Richmond Randle.

Flying below the proverbial radar is Llano (12-1). The Yellowjackets continued to impress with a 31-7 win over Goliad on Friday. Llano will ride a nine-game winning streak heading into Friday’s regional final against Edna.
