3 Houston police officers injured in 2 suspected DWI crashes less than 24 hours apart, HPD says

  • December 1, 2025

HOUSTON, Texas – Three Houston police officers are recovering after being injured in two suspected drunken-driving crashes less than a day apart, one in Midtown and another in the Heights.

The most recent crash happened Sunday night in Midtown, where neighbors say dangerous driving has become a growing concern.

Houston police say an HPD unit was hit around 10:45 p.m. at the intersection of Chenevert and Tuam after a driver blew through a stop sign. Investigators said the driver and his passenger both admitted to having a drink earlier in the night.

The two men inside the car and the two officers were taken to the hospital. All are expected to recover.

Residents in the area told KPRC 2 the intersection has long been a problem spot, close to U.S. 59 and within walking distance of several bars in Midtown.

This crash comes less than 24 hours after another HPD officer was hurt in a suspected DWI crash on Sunday morning in the Heights. That incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on TC Jester near White Oak Bayou. Both the driver and the officer were taken to the hospital. HPD has not yet released an update on their conditions.

In total, six people were injured in the two crashes.

KPRC 2 has reached out to HPD for more information on the officers and the suspected impaired drivers.
