Three people were left injured after a failed suicide attempt caused an intentional car pileup in Central Lubbock over the weekend.

Intentional Collision in Lubbock

Just after 9:40 in the evening on November 29, Lubbock Police Department (LPD) responded to a report of a car accident with multiple injuries at 34th and University.

Once officers arrived on scene, they discovered a damaged SUV with 23-year-old Gracey Breitschopf, a passenger, and 25-year-old Mkenna McFadden, the driver, suffering moderate injuries.

Another victim, 61-year-old Senaida Ortiz was also injured while driving her minivan during the collision. All three were transported to University Medical Center following the event.

Lubbock Man Arrested for Pileup

LPD arrested the man who they believe started the multiple vehicle crash: Javier Valenzzuela, 20.

Valenzzuela told police that he purposely struck the other vehicles with his own in an attempt to commit suicide. An investigation unit was then called to the scene, along with medical personnel to treat Valenzzuela, which he refused.

As investigators discovered the truth of what happened, they learned that Valenzzuela was traveling east on 34th Street at an undetermined speed.

He then collided into the back of the SUV driven by McFadden, shoving the vehicle into the intersection, crashing into Ortiz’s minivan who was travelling south down University.

Javier Valenzzuela was sent to the Lubbock County Detention Center after admitting to being the cause for the multi-vehicle crash. He was booked on three counts of aggravated assault.
