An El Paso Sheriff’s Deputy is getting a lot of attention online for a caring gesture made to a homeless person, based on his own past.
Most would think that the kind act was inspired, at least a little bit, by the holiday season and that may well be the case but there was more to this than just trying to spread a little holiday cheer.
The motivation for this ran much deeper, stemming from the deputy’s own childhood.

He thought it was because he had good grades and stayed out of trouble but his participation actually stemmed from his family being low income. As a kid he really didn’t see it but it inspired him to go into law enforcement himself and to give back when he could.
Deputy Hugo Delgadillo was working an off-duty security job early Saturday morning when he says a woman approached him and told him, in Spanish, that she was experiencing homelessness and didn’t have money for a pair of shoes. Delgadillo says she was wearing thin socks and worn-out sandals on a cold morning.
He told her to give him an hour, and when he returned, he brought her new socks and a pair of shoes. – ktsm
The incident was caught on video and spread quickly across the internet, drawing a lot of praise for Deputy Delgadillo. He says he didn’t do anything special, just wanted the lady to feel dared for and to know that, as he put it, “that she’s not any different than I am.”
Well done Deputy. Well done.
