Despite a recent $200 million dollar budget deficit, the Democrats on Harris County Commissioners Court had no problem approving $1.3 million of taxpayer dollars to provide legal help to illegal aliens facing deportation.
The final vote was 4-1, with Precinct 3 Commissioner and lone Republican, Tom Ramsey voting no.
It’s worth noting that this all started back in 2020, when Harris County established an Immigrant Legal Services Fund to provide legal services to illegal immigrants.
Equally as troubling is that during this past legislative session, State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione filed a bill that would have banned local governments in Texas from funding the legal representation of illegal immigrants in deportation proceedings
The bill made it through a hearing in the Texas House State Affairs Committee, and actually passed on a 10-5 vote. But with Speaker Dustin Burrows running the show, the bill did not receive a vote on the House floor.Â
Unfortunately Houston is not alone, as Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Bexar County also spend taxpayer dollars to assist illegal aliens.
