If you partied, celebrated or just chilled in Juarez in the 80’s, you probably did it at Chihuahua Charlie’s. Those days are back and you don’t need a passport, you’re not leaving El Paso.
Chihuahua Charlie’s was a mainstay and a must back in the day. Dinner with the family, shots with your crew or maybe even as a part of some simple, teenage, coming of age mayhem. They should make a movie about the place.
If you miss those days, (or missed out on them), you get a second chance on El Paso’s west side.
Chihuahua Charlie’s is back in business, on this side of the border, at 2900 N. Mesa; across from the Don Haskins Center. Great food, awesome bar and no border guards but, those under 21 won’t have as much luck getting a drink as they did in the 80’s.
Seriously, Charlie’s back … see for yourself:

The place has such a cool, “you’ve slipped away to Mexico” vibe; my boss didn’t even say anything about me drinking beer in the middle of a work day. The drinks are cold, the bar is awesome and the food is delicious. Time it right and there may even be a live band.
@voiceyourselfval Chihuahua Charlie’s is BACK 🎉🔥 From Juárez in the ‘80s to West El Paso today live music, cantaritos, and seriously good food. A few kinks to work out, but we’re already planning our next visit!Â
Allow a little extra time to truly chill and enjoy the experience but also, just to get your food. The manager, Jose Luis, told me flat out that the cooks take their time to make sure you get everything exactly the way you expect it.

We’re not talking hours here, just a little extra time. Consider it an excuse to unwind or have an extra drink upstairs at the bar. Great food takes a minute and this ain’t no burger joint. Everything is made fresh, when it’s ordered. No pre-cooked nada here.
