SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The death of a Texas A&M student near the campus of University of Texas is not suspicious, at least for now.
According to the Austin Police Department, Brianna Aguilera had attended a tailgate party Friday night before the Aggies and the Longhorns played a highly anticipated football game in Austin. By 1 a.m. Saturday, Aguilera was found dead outside an apartment building near the campus.
The circumstances surrounding Aguilera’s death may not be fully known, but investigators say she died as a result of suicide after falling some 17 floors.
KSAT-12 reports Aguilera’s mother, Stephanie Rodriguez, is not buying that explanation. She says her daughter was not suicidal and she also believes there was a fight in a room prior to her death. Rodriguez thinks someone in the room before her daughter died knows something, but she says detectives have shown no interest in that possible aspect of the story. Rodriguez thinks as many as 15 people were in the room when something happened to her daughter.
Aguilera was unaccounted for after the football game as her mother tried to reach her, but she never answered her phone. Rodriguez was told she had to wait 24 hours before filing a missing person report, but she says her daughter’s phone could be seen pinging in Austin.
APD says Aguilera was found unresponsive by a good Samaritan shortly after midnight Saturday.
Rodriguez says she was not told until 4 p.m. Saturday that her daughter was in the morgue. The Travis County Medical Examiner will determine Aguilera’s official cause of death.
