Jerry Jones joined 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) Tuesday, where he revealed that he hasn’t gotten last year’s Cowboys-Lions result out of his mind.
The Cowboys owner/general manager said his team’s 47-9 loss was embarrassing and that he was looking forward to Thursday’s rematch at Ford Field in Detroit. It’ll be an important game for a Dallas team that sits at 6-5-1 and is looking to bolster its chances at making a postseason run.
With a win over the Lions, the Cowboys could strengthen their chances of securing a playoff spot in a crowded NFC field. Jones was asked if he thought his team’s best opportunity sat in aiming for a wild card spot or going for the NFC East title.
“Sometimes when you know that it’s hard to figure, that’s when you just have to put your head down and say, ‘Listen, I can’t get this rationalized or coordinated in my mind, so we’ve just got to go out here and win these ball games.’ Then it can happen for you,” Jones said.

Jones then pointed out how teams can go through positive and negative momentum swings as the regular season winds down. He looked back at Philadelphia’s 2023 season, where the Eagles entered the playoffs on a two-game losing streak before they were eliminated by Tampa Bay in the wild card round.
“Teams go and get better just because of what’s out in front of them and [some] teams do drop off,” Jones said. “Our best shot, I think, is to win the division.”
The Cowboys need a few things to go right if they want to win the division. They currently sit in second in the NFC East, just 1.5 games behind the Eagles. Dallas owns a 3-game win streak, while Philadelphia has dropped its last two.
As Dallas looks to maintain its positive streak, Jones offered praise for the work first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer and his staff have done in 2025.
“The good news is the players, the coaches match up. We’ve had crisis, we’ve come through. We’ve had some positive things happen in crisis. You couldn’t have asked for a better way for a new staff to meld and get in and start working together for the longer haul,” Jones said. “I’m excited about what we’ve done. How we have evolved and it would be a fairy tale — not a total fairy tale, but it would be wonderful to pull this thing out, get in those playoffs and have this staff make a run at it.
“We’ve got the personnel that we can compete like that.”
