CANUTILLO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Dr. Josue D. Borrego has been named the lone finalist for the Canutillo Independent School District superintendency following a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees on Tuesday.
Borrego, currently an associate superintendent and senior executive director in the Houston Independent School District, is expected to assume the role in January after a state-mandated waiting period.
Board President Sergio Martinez expressed confidence in Borrego’s ability to improve student outcomes, stating, “Dr. Borrego brings with him an impressive record of helping schools and school systems improve student outcomes. The board is confident he can produce similar, if not greater, results here in Canutillo.”
Borrego’s career spans roles as an assistant principal, principal, and executive administrator in the Dallas and Houston ISDs. Under his leadership, several campuses improved from chronic low performance to A ratings. He has also led efforts to enhance performance among teachers, principals, and mid-level administrators.
The trustees will vote on Borrego’s contract in January after the required 21-day waiting period.
The board spent two months gathering input, overseeing applications, and interviewing candidates.
