The Texas A&M University sophomore who came to Austin for the Lone Star Showdown football game with her friends was discovered dead on Friday night at a West Campus apartment complex, the Austin Police Department confirmed. Brianna Aguilera was a Texas A&M political science and government student. She was pronounced dead around 1 a.m. on Saturday, about 10 minutes after officers responded to a call at the 21 Rio Apartments, the police said.
Police revealed that her death was not being investigated as a homicide and added that there was no evidence of criminal activity. “There is no evidence to suggest or support any suspicious or criminal circumstances surrounding Ms. Aguilera’s passing,” the Austin Police Department Public Information Office said in a statement.
Investigation Continuing, Cause of Death Has Not Been Revealed
Although police denied any foul play, the investigation into Aguilera’s death remains open. Her official cause of death will be determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. Aguilera’s relatives are still waiting to hear from the authorities, according to family members.
“I wish I could tell you what conversations were had in those apartments,” said Aguilera’s cousin, Amabeli Fernandez. “But no one has come forward and told her family, her mom, her father, exactly what happened.” Fernandez also said that she cannot explain what caused Aguilera’s death.
Brianna’s Family Launched A GoFundMe, Community Responds
Aguilera’s family has organized a GoFundMe campaign that has raised over $38,000, surpassing their original $12,000 goal. Fernandez also organized that campaign for the family during this difficult time. Aguilera’s mother, Stephanie Rodriguez, thanked those who sent donations and shared her heartbreak in public. “I’ve experienced every parent’s worst fear, but I’m comforted by the knowledge that my Brie Brie touched so many hearts,” Rodriguez wrote.
Brianna Aguilera Had Big Dreams and a Close Family
Aguilera was majoring in political science and government and going to law school. She had always been resolute about attending Texas A&M and was an enrolled student at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, her family said. She was expected to graduate in December 2026 and was looking forward to receiving her Aggie ring, which Texas A&M students take as an important milestone.
“She was the type of person you see and know they have it all together,” Fernandez said. Her little brothers were in awe of her accomplishments. She loved them. That’s just the kind of person that she was.”
Awaiting Answers
As investigators are investigating the circumstances of Aguilera’s death, her family lives in a state of agonizing uncertainty. “There are still no answers,” Fernandez said. Austin police announced that the investigation was ongoing and that further information would be available once the medical examiner completes the autopsy and issues an official ruling.
