EL PASO, Tx., December 3, 2025: The March 3, 2026, primary elections are just around the corner with just 90 days left until most of El Paso’s countywide elections are settled. Before the election season gets underway there are two important dates for the candidates and the voters to remember. The first date is next Monday, December 8. It is the last day for candidates to file to run for office in Texas. The last day to register to vote in the primary is February 2, 2026.

For most candidates in Texas and those running for office in El Paso, the seats they are seeking have been set. But for five Texas House seats, uncertainty on which district they should file in remains.

Uncertainty In Five Texas House Seats

Candidates running for a congressional seat in El Paso do not face the problem of other congressional candidates in Texas who are not sure what the Supreme Court will do about the two competing congressional maps, the 2025 or the 2021 maps. Readers may remember that last month, a panel of three judges called the 2025 congressional maps “racially gerrymandered,” ordering Texas officials to use the previous, 2021 maps instead. There was one dissenting judge.

However, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito paused the order, reverting the maps back to the 2025 version.

No word yet if the full Court will lift the pause. The uncertainty leaves candidates in five Texas House seats uncertain over which district they should run in.
