EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Eight-time Grammy-nominated Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernández, known as Los Embajadores del Mariachi, will perform their “Merry-achi Christmas” show at the Plaza Theatre this month.
The concert will be held on Dec. 19 at 8 p.m.
This event is part of their 16-city national tour celebrating the holiday season with a mariachi twist.
The performance is particularly significant for founder José Hernández, marking his 50th year of promoting the regional Mexican genre.
The show will feature a mix of holiday classics and mariachi standards, including Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” Suite and “Feliz Navidad.” Ballet Folclórico Quetzales of El Paso will also participate.
Hernández expressed his hope that audiences will gain a new perspective on mariachi music.
The concert is the 14th stop on their tour, which includes cities like Portland and Dallas. Beyond performances, Sol de México members educate through the Mariachi Heritage Society, a nonprofit founded by Hernández.
The concert will be held at Plaza Theatre, 125 West Mills Ave., El Paso. Tickets are available online or by calling 915-231-1100.
