Family members confirmed Raidel Liranza Alvarez, a 39-year-old dentist from Cuba, died after a truck veered off Sycamore School Road and struck his bedroom.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A 39-year-old man died after a pickup truck crashed into a first-floor apartment Tuesday evening in southwestern Fort Worth, police said. Neighbors described the man as a beloved member of their community.

Police responded around 6:25 p.m. to a major accident in the 4600 block of Sycamore School Road, where they found a red pickup truck had lost control and struck the apartment.

The resident inside, identified by family members as Raidel Liranza Alvarez, was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.

Alvarez, who had recently moved to the United States from Cuba and had only lived in the area for two years, was mourned by neighbors who said he was more than just a neighbor: he was like family.

His only close relative in North Texas, his sister, lives just a few doors away.

“I’m very sad … I’m confused,” said neighbor Angela Kimberling. “What really happened is what we’re questioning.”

Alvarez’s sister launched a GoFundMe in hopes of raising enough money to transport his body back to his home country of Cuba, where their mother lives.

“It’s a tragic loss for such a good person,” neighbor Donna Phillips added. “I’m gonna miss him.”

She described Alvarez as kind, helpful and full of dreams. According to Phillips, Alvarez was likely sleeping in his bedroom when the wreck happened. Alvarez worked nights and slept during the evening.

She pointed out that he would have turned 40 this month.

“He had dreams … he was on a journey,” Phillips said. “He was like a son to me. Always willing to help me.”

Police say the driver remained at the scene and passed a field sobriety test. No signs of impairment were reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Neighbors say the loss of Alvarez leaves a silence in the community, and it’s a reminder of just how fragile life can be and how deeply one person can touch the lives of many.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Fort Worth police.
