Jeremy Painkin was first indicted on the federal charges in September 2024.

PLANO, Texas — The former president of the Allen firefighters’ union has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing from the organization he once led, federal prosecutors announced.

Jeremy Painkin, 42, of Frisco, was sentenced Wednesday to 13 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas. Painkin was also ordered to pay more than $108,000 in restitution, officials said.

Federal court records show Painkin served as president of the Allen Professional Firefighters Association from 2017 until he resigned in October 2023 amid a financial investigation. Investigators found that he used union funds to make personal purchases, including expensive clothing, travel, tickets to entertainment venues, fuel, food and online shopping, and attempted to pass them off as union expenses. Prosecutors said Painkin also attempted to conceal the spending by making false statements to members of the organization.

Painkin was originally indicted in September 2024. According to WFAA’s original reporting, officials in Allen said that no public funds or firefighter benefits were affected. The City of Allen emphasized that the union operates independently of the Allen Fire Department and does not manage pensions or city benefits. Officials also confirmed that Painkin had not been an active firefighter since 2015.
