After an Afghan national—who entered the U.S. in 2021 following President Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal—shot members of the National Guard in D.C., killing one, the entire “Operation Allies Welcome” program has come under heavy scrutiny.

That program has led to massive migration of Afghans into the United States. While those migrants have primarily settled in blue states, multiple Texas counties also saw an influx of both cash and refugees due to the program.

Brandon Waltens with Texas Scorecard reports that “Texas saw tens of thousands of Afghan refugees being moved into the state, mainly in places like Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio”—Texas’ three biggest and bluest metro areas.

Waltens also warned that with the sheer numbers of supposed refugees Texas took in, it’s almost guaranteed that some are here with ill intent. “Any time you’re letting people in using little to no vetting for anyone coming into the country, that is a security threat, and I think we’re seeing that play out right now,” he said.

We’ve already seen one terror plot in Texas thwarted, with 33-year-old Mohammad Dawood Alokozay arrested in Fort Worth after claiming he was building a bomb on social media. Waltens says there’s also likely a monetary fraud aspect tied to all this as well.
