LUBBOCK, Texas (December 3, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University defeated UT Permian Basin 78-59 on Wednesday at Rip Griffin Center to open Lone Star Conference play with a win.

The Chaparrals used a 12-point run heading into the half to pull away and secured the win by dominating the paint with 46 points. LCU shot a whopping 71.4 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, and limited the Falcons to 16.7 percent shooting from behind the arc in the game.

Lubbock Christian stands at 7-0 overall and 1-0 in LSC play. UTPB is now 3-4 overall and 0-1 in Lone Star competition.

The first half opened with the Chaparrals and Falcons exchanging the lead multiple times. Lubbock Christian gained control midway through the half, sparked by a three-pointer from Amondo Miller Jr. to tie the game at 9–9 with 14:46 remaining.

Kendall Dow contributed significantly, assisting on a fast break layup by Antonio Pusateri at the 14:12 mark, putting the home team ahead. Pusateri was a big key to the first half offensive success, nearly getting to a double-double in just 20 minutes of playing time. He scored 13 points the half and grabbed nine rebounds.

LCU last trailed in the game at the 7:09 mark, when a jumper from the Falcons put them ahead by three. On the other end, Pusateri hit a layup and was fouled, completing the and-one to tie the game. Jett McCasland sparked the 12-0 run to end the half by hitting a three-pointer with just under four minutes to go, and the teams went into their locker rooms with Lubbock Christian leading 42–28.

The Chaps started the second half with a strong offensive push, including a layup by Lucas Mercandino at the 19:42 mark, maintaining their momentum with multiple fast-break points. Dow contributed significantly with a series of layups, extending their lead to 49-32.

LCU basically abandoned the three entirely in the second half, taking just two attempts from behind the arc as they were doing a lot of work inside. Amondo Miller Jr. provided key defensive rebounds and added points with a fast-break layup at 11:54, further solidifying their lead. Mercandino had a big hand in the second half, scoring all 11 of his points in the final 20 minutes.

A pair of free throws from Alex Anamekwe gave LCU its widest lead of the game at 22 points with 6:42 left in the game. UTPB responded with an 8-0 run, but it was too little, too late, as the game concluded with Lubbock Christian securing a decisive 78-59 victory.

Miller Jr. scored 21 points, converting 9 of 15 field goals, and collected nine rebounds. Pusateri followed close behind 19 points and 12 rebounds, along with two blocks. Dow added 13 points and recorded five assists, making all three of his free throws. Mercandino contributed 11 points and one steal while shooting 4-of-7 from the field.
