Colder air brings chance of light snow overnight, Thursday

  • December 4, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Colder air is beginning to settle over the South Plains Wednesday evening and into Thursday, with a chance of light snow mainly across the northern portion of the viewing area.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

Precipitation is expected to be mainly light snow. In the earliest stages of the event, and along the eastern and southern edges of the precipitation area, precipitation may begin as rain or mix with sleet or freezing rain before changing to snow.

The best chance for accumulating snow will come overnight into Thursday morning, from about midnight through midmorning. A light dusting to near 1/2 inch is possible, primarily along and north of a Morton-to-Plainview line. Most other locations are expected to see little or no accumulation.

Watch for slick roadways, bridges and sidewalks Thursday morning as temperatures drop below freezing and rain or light snow leaves surfaces wet. Although no major accumulations are expected, patches of ice are possible, so allow extra time for morning commutes.

Cloud cover will limit temperature changes. Lows tonight are expected to be slightly warmer than earlier forecasts anticipated, and Thursday’s highs will be a touch cooler, in the 40s.

After this brief, weakening winter system, conditions are forecast to turn drier and generally warmer into next week.
