Winter weather is affecting much of the southern Plains today, with snow and sleet reported across Oklahoma and Texas. National Weather Service (NWS) offices have issued or maintained winter weather advisories covering broad sections of both states.

In the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12:00 CST. The NWS Amarillo reports an additional 2.5 to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches) of snow through the day.

Roads, bridges, and overpasses are slick, with travel impacts observed from Dalhart to Amarillo and Guymon. Motorists are advised to slow down and monitor state road updates via the Texas DOT and the Oklahoma DOT.

Further south, the NWS Lubbock has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 12:00 CST for the southern Texas Panhandle and northern South Plains, including Childress, Plainview, and Littlefield. Snow and sleet accumulations up to 2.5 cm (1 inch) are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Hazardous travel conditions will persist through midday.

In central and western Oklahoma, the NWS Norman has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 15:00 CST, covering the Oklahoma City metro, Norman, and Lawton areas. Total snow and sleet accumulations may reach 5 cm (2 inches), producing slick surfaces and delays during the morning commute.

Meanwhile, NWS Tulsa continues Winter Weather Advisories for Tulsa, Muskogee, Creek, Wagoner, Okmulgee, and McIntosh counties through 15:00 CST, where a wintry mix of snow and sleet is producing up to 2.5 cm (1 inch) of accumulation.

The advisory has been extended eastward to include Cherokee and Adair counties, where totals near 1.2 cm (0.5 inch) are forecast. Officials advise caution on untreated roads, sidewalks, and driveways, as patchy icing is likely to persist into the afternoon.

Residents across affected areas are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and monitor local forecasts and road condition updates.
