A New Chapter for Downtown Lubbock
A major milestone for downtown revitalization is finally here. The Lubbock Downtown Park Conservancy (LDPC) has announced that construction on the new Lubbock Downtown Park will officially begin with a public groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 2 p.m. The event will be held at the future park site at Broadway and Avenue L, and all community members are invited to attend.

About the Lubbock Downtown Park Conservancy
The LDPC, a 501(c)(3) organization created to build, program, and maintain the new park, says the project will introduce a versatile and vibrant greenspace to the center of the city. Teinert Construction has been selected as the general contractor, with construction expected to take roughly nine to ten months once the project begins.
Planned Features of the Park
The upcoming Lubbock Downtown Park is designed to serve residents and visitors of all ages. Planned amenities include:
Feature Stage Pavilion for concerts, comedy shows, theater, and community events
Family Zone with all-season restrooms, plentiful seating, and a donor recognition wall
Art Zone showcasing public art from local, regional, and national creators
Event Greenspace for picnics, festivals, recreation, and large gatherings
Pet Relief Area offering a convenient stop for dog owners
Rock Garden built for climbing, balancing, and active play
Shady Plaza with mature trees offering a quiet, relaxing spot
Food Truck Grove with designated hook-ups for mobile vendors
Game Zone outfitted for ping pong, cornhole, and casual outdoor games

Groundbreaking Ceremony Details
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place Thursday, December 11, at 2 p.m. at Broadway and Avenue L. The public is welcome to attend as Lubbock celebrates the official start of construction.
