CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County has lifted its outdoor burn ban after officials determined conditions in unincorporated areas no longer pose a heightened fire risk.

County Judge Connie Scott issued the termination order Thursday, ending the ban at 5 p.m. The ban had been in place since Nov. 5, when commissioners determined that dry conditions created a public safety hazard that could be worsened by outdoor burning.

At the time, commissioners authorized Scott to rescind the order early if conditions improved. According to Wednesday’s notice, the judge concluded that fire risk in unincorporated areas has declined enough to safely allow outdoor burning again.

The original ban was expected to remain in effect until Jan. 20, 2026, unless ended sooner.
