FRISCO — The Cowboys’ 2-3-1 record has marked this team as up and down. They have also yet to win or lose consecutive games this season.

The last time the Cowboys won consecutive games was Weeks 15 and 16 of the 2024 season. Of course, the Cowboys finished that season on a two-game skid.

After opening the season with a loss at Philadelphia, Dallas won, lost, tied, won and lost over the next five games.

“Part of it I think, it’s the NFL in a sense,” quarterback Dak Prescott said. “Talking about, I know I mentioned the identity before, and finding out who we were. When you’re up and down, I don’t know if you have that answer quite yet or as quick as you want to. We know our strengths and we know our weaknesses. We know where we gotta grow. A lot of room to grow and I know we got the right people and competitors for the most part in this locker room to make some gains.”

With the Cowboys’ defense ranked last in the NFL, the offense has been tasked with trying to carry the team. Overall, the Cowboys have the best offense in the league and hope Sunday’s game at AT&T Stadium against Washington leads to more favorable results.

Dallas has scored at least 37 points in its two home games, both overtime games, a win over the New York Giants and a tie with the Green Bay Packers.

Prescott said he doesn’t feel added pressure for the offense to produce points despite the defense’s problems.

“It’s my standard, its our standard,” he said. “It’s what we believe that we can do, what we expect to do. I don’t think it’s any added pressure through our defenses early struggles.

“One, we got to trust in them and do our job, its part of being a pro doing your job and trust in the man next to you is going to do his. So we got confidence in that and that allows us to play our game plan.”

Prescott believes the offense can score on every possession. While he admits that’s not realistic, it’s his mindset that allows him to think the offense is unstoppable.

“I feel like I need to score every time,” he said. “I feel like I need to complete every pass. I would hope the running backs would feel like they need to get five yards every time they carry. Now it’s not realistic but you better feel that way and you better think that way and anybody in that locker room has or they wouldn’t be NFL professional football players.

“That’s kind of the way some of our minds have been wired from the beginning. Whether you see it as crazy or arrogant or whatever it is, I think that’s why guys are in this locker room.”
