HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — One person is in custody after police say shots were fired at the scene of a crash and carjacking along the Gulf Freeway on Friday.

The Houston Police Department said the major crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. at 8101 Park Place near the Gulf Freeway. SkyEye flew over the area, where heavy police activity was blocking two lanes of traffic.

HPD said the wreck was followed by a carjacking, adding that the crash may have been deadly.

One of the people involved in the crash appeared to have fired shots at the scene, police said, though it’s unclear if anyone was hit by the gunfire.

The department said they have someone in custody near the Eastex Freeway, and the investigation remains underway.
