The student reportedly made verbal threats toward the school’s administrator and lunged toward the resource officer’s gun, police say.

WYLIE, Texas — A North Texas middle school student was arrested Thursday after allegedly making threats and lunging toward a school resource officer’s gun, officials say.

A school resource officer at Wylie ISD’s McMillan Jr. High School was called to an administrator’s office to investigate an alleged threat made by a student at about 2 p.m. Thursday, according to Wylie Police.

The student continued to make verbal threats toward the administrator and lunged toward the resource officer’s gun to gain access, police say.

The 12-year-old student was restrained and taken into custody on complaints of terroristic threat causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury and taking or attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer, according to police. The student was not identified because of the student’s age.

“The Wylie Police Department wants to remind parents and students that we take all threats seriously and that we will not tolerate any threats toward our campuses or Wylie ISD staff. We will continue to work with our Wylie ISD partners to investigate all threats and perceived threats,” Wylie police said in a statement.Â
