RICHMOND, Texas (KTRK) — According to Feeding America, Texas has the nation’s highest food-insecure population. Affecting around one million people in our region.
So, this holiday season, consider donating to ABC13’s 45th annual Share Your Holidays food drive, benefiting the Houston Food Bank.
Every donation stays in our community and supports nonprofits like Helping Hands in Richmond-Rosenberg.
Michael Gutierrez is the center’s director.
“A lot of the clients who come here have actually become family because they’ve been coming here often enough. They become familiar with us, and we become familiar with them,” Gutierrez said.
Gutierrez added that the nonprofit provides food, clothing, and essential services to people in need.
“I thank God for this facility,” One client said. “I’m so proud and happy today, man, to be able to let people know what Helping Hands has done for me because it’s been a struggle in my life, and it’s good that we have a place like this.”
About ABC13 Share Your Holidays
What started as an idea to put a food drive on TV for an hour has morphed into a Houston-area wide event going strong 45 years later as the ABC13 Share Your Holidays Food Drive.
Since 1980, the year the drive launched at ABC13, millions upon millions of cans of food have been collected through Share Your Holidays.
As the need grows, there are easy ways to help our neighbors if you’re in a position to do so.
