TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Two people are dead after a fiery plane crash in North Texas on Sunday afternoon that sparked a massive blaze and involved 18-wheelers and tractor trailers.

The Fort Worth Fire Department told CBS News that the crash was reported on Oct. 12 just after 1:30 p.m. in the 12700 block of North Saginaw Boulevard in Tarrant County near Hicks Airfield.

Officials say the plane hit 18-wheelers and trailers, starting a heavy fire that took 35 minutes to contain. 

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, CBS News reported.

The crash also sparked a grass fire and damaged at least 10 tractor trailers. Emergency crews from different municipalities responded to the blaze, including crews from Tarrant County, Haslet, Lake Worth, Newark, Saginaw, Eagle Mountain and Fort Worth.

Photos posted to a Facebook page for news alerts in Lancaster showed a giant plume of smoke at the scene while crews worked to contain the fire.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) identified the plane as a Beechcraft King Air C90. Fort Worth FD said it took off from Alliance Airport in Fort Worth; its destination remains unknown.

The NTSB is investigating the crash and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is leading the investigation.
