SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed at a Pepsi bottling facility after being pinned between a tractor-trailer and a loading dock, according to a San Antonio police preliminary report.
Authorities responded around 1 p.m. Wednesday to the facility in the 6100 block of NE Loop 410 on the Northeast Side.
The San Antonio Fire Department said when they arrived, CPR was being done on the man by police.
SAPD’s report states the man was clearing spilled cargo items from his own trailer when another truck was backing up into a nearby dock space.
The driver of the other truck did not see or hear the man and subsequently pinned him against the loading dock, police said.
After their CPR attempts, fire and EMS crews pronounced the man dead at the scene.
On Thursday night, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Jose Mendoza, 60.
The medical examiner’s office said Mendoza died of blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.
PepsiCo Beverages sent KSAT the following statement on Wednesday night:
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of our colleagues. We have been working closely with law enforcement and local officials regarding the matter. Our sincere condolences are with their family members and loved ones.”
SAPD’s investigation is ongoing.
