Texas State football will play Rice in the Armed Forces Bowl on Jan. 2, a source told the American-Statesman Sunday.
The game in Fort Work will kick off at noon.
The Bobcats began the season 3-1 before things went awry during Sun Belt conference play. Texas State lost five straight games, including four one-score games and two in overtime. After a 42-39 loss to Louisiana, head coach GJ Kinne and his team needed to win their final three games to qualify for bowl eligibility.
All of this is in preparation for Texas State’s move to the Pac-12. It will join the conference next year as one of six new members, and the Bobcats will return starting quarterback Brad Jackson, along with his top two wide receivers, Beau Sparks and Chris Dawn Jr.
