LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Light southeasterly winds continue dominating the region this morning. By the afternoon, southerly winds will take over and become increasingly breezier, around 20 mph for most.

Persistent heating is expected through the afternoon with lots of sunshine and highs ranging from the lower to middle 80s on the Caprock. Mid-to-upper 80s are expected off of the Caprock, and some areas will be pushing 90°.

Thunderstorm chances will arrive in the later parts of the afternoon and early evening hours. Areas west of the I-27 corridor will have the best chances to see showers as storms from New Mexico push toward the state line. These showers and storms are expected to decrease in intensity as they progress towards our viewing area. Coverage will be limited, isolated, and sparse overall; the chance for measurable rainfall is extremely low.

Storms that do develop will be fast-moving, with most rain chances ending by midnight. Breezy winds should last into the nighttime hours, leaving low temperatures slightly elevated for some. Temperatures will range from the upper 40s in the northwest to the low 60s in the southeast into Friday morning.
Fair weather is expected for Friday, and a wide range of temperatures will be expected into the weekend as our Pacific front draws near. Roller coaster of temperatures expected throughout next week as well, with frontal boundaries passing through.
