Arlington ISD’s academic accountability score rose after an appeal saw six campuses jump a letter grade on the state’s A-F ratings, the district announced Tuesday afternoon.

The scores grade school districts on how well they are educating their students.

The change comes four months after Arlington school officials said their 2024-25 ratings would be subject to change after a delay in the district’s appeal.

Officials projected that six schools in the district would see a letter grade improvement, which they did following the appeal.

Arlington High School: C to B
Berry Elementary: F to D
Duff Elementary: B to A
Hill Elementary: C to B
Ousley Junior High: B to A
Peach Elementary: D to C

Superintendent Matt Smith said the updated results give a better look into Arlington ISD’s progress.

“Our teachers and staff have been focused on strengthening instruction and supporting students, and it is encouraging to see that work more accurately represented in the state’s data,” Smith said in a news release. “We remain committed to building on that progress throughout the year.”

The district’s overall grade remained a C; however, its score rose 1 point to 77.

School officials said most of the rating adjustments were tied to corrected student growth calculations; updated performance data in reading and language arts; and a more accurate count of student groups that met required standards.

In June, Arlington officials submitted about 4,000 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, tests to the Texas Education Agency to be rescored.

The district was later notified that the rescored tests could not be accounted for in TEA’s 2024-25 accountability grades, which are largely based on STAAR scores.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
