HOUSTON – A Houston freeway was blocked by an 18-wheeler engulfed in flames Tuesday evening.

What we know:

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office alerted the public of the incident around 7:15 p.m. 

At that time, the truck was engulfed in flames on the IH-610 overpass at IH-45 in south Houston. 

Fire responders were on the way to the scene at that time as well. 

The Houston Fire Department said a HazMat team was on the way to assist as well. The truck was possibly carrying hazardous material, but they say the tank has not ruptured. 

The sheriff’s office urged the public to stay away from the area, but no evacuation order or shelter in place has been issued. 

What we don’t know:

The truck’s contents have not been confirmed. 

No injuries have been reported at the time of publishing.
