LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Some South Plains families may not be able to leave the hospital to go home for the holidays.
To help, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest wants to bring Christmas to them.
The organization hosted a ribbon cutting today for its “Santa’s Village.” It gives families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald House the opportunity to shop for free Christmas presents.
The initiative is supported by community donations to help ease the financial and emotional stress for families during their holiday hospital stay, letting them focus on their child’s health while still providing the magic of Christmas.
Emmanuel Ramirez, the president and CEO of the organization, said this would not be possible without community help.
“So it makes us feel loved, it makes us feel that our community supports the Ronald McDonald house and the mission that we serve,” Ramirez said. “I was just told that we had a big turn out to our ribbon cutting, and that is just so heart warming for us, the Ronald McDonald house, our board and the staff, that we have so many individuals and companies here within the community supporting us here today.”
On Christmas Eve, elves with the Ronald McDonald House will deliver the chosen presents to the families’ doors, giving children who are going through what may be a very difficult time a chance to feel the magic of Christmas and the holiday spirit.
