As TCU readies for a matchup with USC in the Alamo Bowl, it’ll lose a major piece of its coaching staff.
On Monday night ESPN’s Peter Thamel reported that Horned Frogs offensive coordinator Kendal Briles is finalizing a deal to take the same position at South Carolina. According to Thamel, an agreement is “expected to come together in the near future.”

Briles signs on with South Carolina coach Shane Beamer and will replace former OC Mike Shula, who was fired by the Gamecocks nine games into the season.
It’s not yet known if Briles will have one of the most intriguing but mysterious quarterback prospects in the country waiting for him in Columbia, as LaNorris Sellers has a pending decision on whether he’ll stay with South Carolina, hit the transfer portal or declare for the NFL draft. The redshirt sophomore was a Heisman favorite prior to the start of the season but underwhelmed for the 4-8 Gamecocks.
Meanwhile back in Fort Worth, head coach Sonny Dykes will have to find a replacement not only for Briles but possibly for junior quarterback Josh Hoover as well, who is also draft-eligible after finishing fifth in the nation in passing yards.
The Horned Frogs could look a lot different in 2026.
