APS volunteers and Silver Advocate Partners packed 50 holiday care bags filled with food, socks and blankets to support seniors who may be alone this season.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For two decades, Adult Protective Services and the Silver Advocate Partners have teamed up on a mission to support some of the Coastal Bend’s most vulnerable residents: seniors who may be alone or without support during the holidays.

Each year, board members collect donations and assemble 50 care bags filled with nonperishable food, hygiene items, socks and blankets. The goal, organizers say, is to bring comfort and a sense of connection to older adults who may otherwise spend the season without family or community nearby.

Jennifer Catalani, APS program administrator, said the continued commitment from volunteers is what makes the project meaningful.

“It really touches my heart that every year my board comes together to do this for our clients and our community. We have a chance to make a difference in somebody else’s life and that’s what really drives us to do what we do. It’s not always easy but it always matters,” she said.

Once packed, the gift bags will be delivered to seniors throughout the holiday season. Organizers say even small items — a warm blanket, a pair of socks, a few pantry staples — can make a big difference for older adults who may not have anyone else to rely on this time of year.

APS leaders say the tradition continues to grow as more residents learn about the program and look for ways to give back during the holiday season.
