From 3-7 p.m. Dec. 15, the Carter BloodCare bus will set up shop at the Lake Highlands YMCA, located off Stults Road. The Y has hosted events with Carter BloodCare in the past, including one with a car raffle. While there aren’t any sedans on the line this time around, donors will receive a fleece blanket, snack and drink.

Online sign-ups are available through Dec. 14, with walk-ins also welcome. Slots are available in 15-minute increments.

Carter BloodCare formed in 1998 after the merger of BloodCare and Carter Blood Center, two long-standing North Texas community blood providers. The organization provides more than 440,000 units of blood and blood components to area medical facilities annually.

The United States’ blood supply has trickled in recent years, with the National Blood Service having declared a national blood shortage as recently as August 2024. Supply often hit lows due to increased incident-related demand during the summer months and seasonal illnesses in the winter months.
