Construction is officially underway on Plano’s newest luxury destination, the $117.5 million Miyako Hybrid Hotel. Developed by Japan’s Kintetsu Group Holdings Co., Ltd., the 12-story, 217-room boutique property will bring Japanese elegance, service and design to North Texas when it opens in fall 2027.

The project marks the first Miyako Hotels & Resorts location in Texas and only the third in the United States, joining sister properties in Los Angeles and Torrance, California. It will be built on a portion of the former JCPenney corporate campus, which Kintetsu acquired in 2019, within The Park at Legacy, Plano’s bustling business and entertainment district surrounded by major employers like Toyota Motor North America and dozens of Japanese companies.

A Celebration Of Cultural Connection

At a recent groundbreaking ceremony, local officials, business leaders and community partners gathered alongside visiting Kintetsu executives from Japan to commemorate the milestone.

“We chose Plano as the site for our new hotel because the area has experienced remarkable development in recent years; it is home to many companies, including Toyota Motors North America; and the local community, including Plano, has welcomed us warmly,” said Mr. Takashi Wakai, president of Kintetsu Group Holdings, at the groundbreaking.

Wakai said the hotel’s name embodies its goal of uniting the best of both worlds, a “hybrid” that blends Western warmth with Eastern precision and hospitality.

“Our new hotel here will not be just another hotel; it will make full use of the best aspects of Japanese culture and service, and we aim to become a place that is loved by many people,” he added.

Luxury Meets Sustainability

Designed by global architecture firm Gensler, with interiors by Looney & Associates, the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Plano will emphasize sustainability and energy efficiency. The Beck Group serves as the general contractor for the roughly 205,000-square-foot construction on a 135,000-square-foot site.

Amenities will include a traditional Japanese restaurant, an upscale lobby bar, a Japanese bakery and a Texas-style rooftop bar. Guests will also enjoy a Japanese spa, outdoor pool and fitness center, along with flexible meeting and banquet spaces designed for corporate gatherings and community events.

A Strengthened Partnership Between Japan And Plano

Plano Mayor John Muns praised the project as a reflection of the strong ties between the city and Japan.

“The Miyako Hybrid Hotel reflects the enduring partnership between Plano and Japan and embodies the spirit of innovation and hospitality that defines both our communities,” said Mayor Muns. “The city of Plano is proud to collaborate with Kintetsu on this remarkable addition to our city.”

The Honorable Zentaro Naganuma, consul general of Japan in Houston, echoed that sentiment, noting how the development deepens economic and cultural bonds.

“While nearly 300 Japanese companies are currently making substantial contributions to the development of North Texas, construction of the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Plano will further strengthen economic relations between Japan and North Texas, and Plano in particular,” said Naganuma.

When completed in 2027, the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Plano will stand as both a symbol of international collaboration and a new hub of luxury hospitality in the heart of Legacy West, where Japanese tradition meets Texas innovation.
