LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The City of Lubbock Cemetery will host its annual Wreaths Across America ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m., with wreath placement immediately following the ceremony.
The cemetery, which was the first Lubbock cemetery to host a Wreaths Across America ceremony in 2008, has sponsored 704 wreaths so far this year toward its goal of 2,500 wreaths to honor every veteran buried at the site.
Major Tammy Preidis serves as the volunteer location coordinator for the event. Preidis took over the program for the Civil Air Patrol Lubbock Composite Squadron in 2012 after serving as a presenter at the 2011 ceremony.
“The experience changed her whole outlook on serving her country,” according to the cemetery’s Wreaths Across America page. Preidis and her husband served in the Air Force, and they have two sons serving as well.
The first ceremony in 2008 featured a handful of Civil Air Patrol seniors and cadets who laid about 60 wreaths. The number of wreaths has increased each year since then.
Volunteers and sponsors needed
The cemetery needs sponsors and volunteers to help lay wreaths at the ceremony. Those with special requests can contact Preidis at 806-429-2033 or waacaplbk@yahoo.com.
The Lubbock Composite Squadron SWR-TX-293 has supported the City of Lubbock Cemetery for 15 years. The Women Veterans of America Hub City Chapter 53 also supports the effort along with eight other local groups.
Wreath cleanup is scheduled for Jan. 24, 2026, at 10 a.m.
The cemetery is located at 2011 East 31st Street in Lubbock.
