Southwest Christian School (SCS) on Dec. 11 announced the hiring of Steve Wood–former state championship head coach at Aledo—as the school’s next Head Football Coach.
Wood brings decades of Texas high school football leadership and a track record of sustained excellence, including playing a significant role in Aledo’s 11 State Championships over the last 15 years, serving as an Assistant Head Coach, Head Coach, and Athletic Director during that historic run. During that time, Wood and the Bearcats accumulated titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. As the Head Coach at Aledo from 2014-18, Wood had an overall record of 75-4 and won three UIL state championships (2014, 2016, 2018).

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Wood to Southwest Christian,” said SCS Athletic Director Tracy Howard. “He is a proven builder of champions – and more importantly, a leader who understands that the best programs develop the whole student-athlete: faith, discipline, character, resilience, and a team-first mindset.”
Coach Wood added, “I’m excited to join the SCS family. I’m coming to be a part of a wonderful Christian school that develops young people for Christian leadership. I’m coming to teach Christian life lessons through the game of football. And, let me be clear, I’m coming to win. I know what a winning football team looks like. I know how to build it, I know how to coach it, and I know how to lead it. And, make no mistake about it, we are going to win at SCS.”

Championship Standard – Built the Right Way
Wood is widely respected for helping establish Aledo as one of Texas’ premier football programs over the last quarter-century, serving both as head coach and athletic director in a system defined by consistency, development, and culture. The SCS community is excited to learn from the experience Coach Wood brings to the program.

Football That Forms Young Men and Fort Worth’s Future Leaders
At Southwest Christian, athletics are an extension of the school’s mission – preparing students for life through biblical worldview training, academic rigor, and leadership development. SCS believes Coach Wood’s commitment to hard work, accountability, and relationship-centered coaching aligns directly with that calling.
