The Brenham girl’s soccer team controlled the entire match against Corpus Christi Ray Friday afternoon in the Blue Bell Invitational. It shut out the Lady Texans 3-0 at Rankin Field.
Senior midfielder Danii Rios-Aguilera got the Cubettes on the scoreboard in the first half when she received a pass from junior Ana Brans on CC Ray’s end of the field. Rios-Aguilera moved into the penalty area and when the keeper ran out of the goal to meet her, she placed a perfect touch on the ball. The goalie made a diving attempt at the shot, but it was out of her reach. The ball gently rolled into the corner of the net.
Junior midfielder Kourtney Hajek made it a 2-0 advantage in the first half when she hit in a Brans corner kick on the Lady Texans’ end.
Hajek gave Brenham an insurance goal in the second off another corner kick from Brans. Hajek positioned herself among a pile of Cubette and CC Ray players at the front of the net and was able to meet the ball as she was sliding feet first.
Defensively, Brenham allowed CC Ray to have just one shot on goal. The team also won the time of possession by a significant margin.
The Cubettes (2-0) faced Jersey Village at 9 a.m. Saturday at Rankin. They then played Lamar Consolidated at 6 p.m. to end the Blue Bell Invitational.
