Though the redistricted maps for the 2026 elections were redrawn to favor Republican candidates, Democrats have identified some races that they think will be competitive. 

2. Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign looking for extra help

According to Feeding America, North Texas has the third-highest number of people facing food insecurity in the nation.

Last year, The Salvation Army of North Texas raised more than $1.5 million through its Red Kettle Campaign. But for this year, they increased their goal to $1.6 million.

3. Attorney General Ken Paxton launches investigation aimed at illegal tax increases

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is aiming to crack down on illegal city tax increases through a new statewide investigation.

The initiative asked almost 1,000 Texas cities, including Houston, San Antonio, Waco, Dallas, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi and Brownsville, to submit their financial documents and information to ensure transparency. More cities are expected to join the list in the future.

People are selling their homes in Texas metro cities, study finds

Texas metropolitan cities make up four of the top 10 metro cities in the country with the highest turnover rates — people selling their homes, according to a report published Saturday by Realtor.com.
