BROOKVILLE — Winning its fourth straight game and picking up its first Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference win since the 1997-98 season, the Brookville Lady Raiders handed Union/A-C Valley a 45-12 loss Thursday night.

The Lady Raiders, who rejoined the KSAC before this season, improved to 4-1 — their season-opening loss at KSAC rival Clarion-Limestone was a non-conference matchup — by rolling up a 30-4 halftime lead, then starting the PIAA Mercy Rule running clock by going up 30 points at 34-4 45 seconds into the third quarter. They outscored the Falcon Knights (1-3) 15-8 in the fast-moving second half.

“We’re just trying to build on what we’ve done so far, some early success and the girls have some confidence right now, so I like where we’re at,” Lady Raiders head coach Mark Powell said. “We’ve really focused our attention, as we typically do, on defense and I’m really happy with our progression. We’re not where we need to be yet, but we’ve done a nice job thus far.”

The Lady Raiders put two players in double-figure scoring with Emma Northey and Samantha Whitling scored 13 and 10 points respectively. All 10 of Whitling’s points came in the first half while Northey scored nine of her 13 before halftime.

Northey also led the way with eight rebounds while Whitney Guth scored four points with six rebounds. Kaida Yoder finished with seven points and five rebounds.

The Lady Raiders forced 34 turnovers, 23 in the first half, but did have giveaway problems of their own with 15 of their 26 turnovers. While shooting just 19-for-56 from the field, the Lady Raiders outrebounded Union/ACV 38-27.

Brookville started the game with a 14-0 lead by the 1:31 mark of the first quarter before Maddy Dehart’s putback got the Falcon Knights on the board with 32 seconds left in the quarter.

Dehart led the Falcon Knights with six points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Raiders outscored Union/ACV 12-2 in the third quarter and Laela Kammerdeiner’s basket with 7:30 left in the fourth gave them their largest lead at 44-6.

The Lady Raiders play a non-conference game at Keystone next Wednesday.

Thursday night was a varsity-only affair that tipped off at 7 p.m.
