Last year, I had one of the most unexpectedly joyful gigs of my entire career: I got to be CableTV’s Chief of Cheer. I have done a lot of wild things in my life and radio career, but spending an entire month drowning in holiday movies for an actual job might be one of my favorite memories. Looking back on it now, I am still surprised by how much fun I had and how deeply I leaned into the ridiculousness of it all.
Out of all the applicants, I was the one picked to watch 25 holiday movies in 25 days. That alone felt like winning a championship title for being a movie nerd. I have always been that person who takes movies a little too seriously, who pauses a scene mid-way just to appreciate the cinematography, and who will argue passionately about whether a non-traditional Christmas movie still counts as a Christmas movie. So the moment I got the email saying I had been chosen, I knew I was about to go on a very chaotic and very festive ride.
I documented the entire thing on social media, posting mini-reviews every day like my own little cinematic advent calendar. I remember trying to keep each video under a minute while also convincing the world that some of my questionable and borderline controversial holiday picks absolutely belong on any respectable seasonal watchlist. Some people loved my choices, some people hated them, and some people were just there to roast me, but honestly, that was part of the fun.
And yes, there were perks. I walked away with $2,500, a Minky Couture blanket that I still guard with my life, and a year of streaming subscriptions that basically turned me into the Thanos of binge-watching. But the real reward was getting to fully indulge the inner film geek I have nurtured since I was a kid. For 25 days straight, I got to celebrate movies, joy, nostalgia, and the absolute chaos of holiday storytelling.
Every now and then, I go back to that movie list and think about how excited I was to share it with everyone. People yelled at me in the comments, argued with me, begged me to remove certain movies, and demanded sequels to my mini-reviews, and it was perfect. Being Chief of Cheer was not just a title. It was a month-long reminder of why I love stories, why movies matter, and why spreading a little joy, even the chaotic kind, is always worth it.
If you want to relive that journey with me, the Grizzmas Movie List is still here. And trust me, it is still very yell-at-me-in-the-comments worthy.
