1. Industrial, multifamily development planned along US 75 in McKinney

McKinney officials have agreed to terms for development of an industrial and multifamily development on 141 acres along US 75. The new zoning will enable development of up to 900 apartment units and a minimum of 25 acres of light industrial uses. The terms also include that residential uses will not be allowed within any area of the property that’s zoned for nonresidential purposes.

2. Frisco ISD expands open enrollment program to high school

Frisco ISD’s open enrollment program, Access Frisco, will soon begin accepting students entering high school. Access Frisco launched in the 2025-26 school year for kindergarten through seventh-grade students to attend campuses that are at or below 90% capacity. The open enrollment program is intended to balance class sizes and improve operational efficiency. Access Frisco is also expanding to the district’s paid pre-K program.

3. Plano council approves 215-acre Lavon Farms mixed-use development

The Lavon Farms development in east Plano is moving forward following final approval from city officials. The 215-acre Lavon Farms development is planned to include, 626 single-family residential units, 1,052 multifamily units and 37 acres of open space, including 10 acres of parks, a micro farm and ranch. High Street Residential, a residential subsidiary of Trammell Crow Company, is the developer overseeing the Lavon Farms project.

4. Burgers and books: Check out 16 businesses now open, coming soon in west McKinney

Several new businesses have opened recently in McKinney, including a new Hopdoddy Burger Bar, a South Indian restaurant and a new car and dog wash business. New businesses on the horizon for the city include a Bread Zeppelin, Chuy’s and an El Pollo Loco.

5. A new Chuy’s, scratch-made bagels and baked goods: 6 Dallas-Fort Worth restaurant updates

Several new restaurants have opened recently or are coming soon in Community Impact’s Dallas-Fort Worth coverage areas, including a new Chuy’s location, a South Korean baked goods chain and new cafes.

6. H-E-B could be coming soon to Plano, Carrollton border

A new H-E-B could be taking shape near west Plano. Carrollton Planning and Zoning commissioners unanimously approved a zoning change at a Dec. 4 meeting for the proposed H-E-B. The store is planned for the northeast corner of Josey Lane and Parker Road, near the border of Plano and Carrollton.
