For the first time since 2001, the Texas A&M volleyball program is headed to the Elite Eight, after a miraculous 3-2 comeback victory over the Louisville Cardinals on Friday night in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Led by head coach Jamie Morrison, the Maroon and White secured its second consecutive appearance in the Sweet 16 and were matched up against one of the most talented, depth-filled rosters in college volleyball. The Cardinals made it all the way to the national title game in 2024, with 11 of the players from last year’s dominant club returning for this season’s ventures under Dan Meske. It wasn’t enough to topple a gritty and determined Aggie squad, however.

The first and second sets featured a back-and-forth battle between two volleyball titans. Texas A&M gained some momentum by leading in both sets, but the Cardinals gained their own steam by taking advantage of the Aggies‘ scoring droughts. When it seemed like Louisville would end the match with a sweep and send the Maroon and White packing, the team displayed fight, like they have all season under Morrison.

Lednicky finished the contest with 20 kills, but Kyndal Stowers’ performance against the Cardinals was one for the history books. She closed out the third, fourth and fifth sets with a kill, including the final blow that advanced Texas A&M to the Elite Eight. Lednicky, Stowers and Hellmuth combined for 49 total kills, while the team hit .277 and recorded 17 blocks against a tough Louisville club.

Next up in Lincoln, the Aggies will play the winner of the Sweet 16 match between Kansas and Nebraska.
