Texas Tech women’s basketball scored 33 points off 24 turnovers en route to a 82-51 victory over Washington State University on Friday in Pullman, Washington. The 31-point victory marks the fifth consecutive game that the Lady Raiders have beat their opponent by 20 points or more.
Eight Tech athletes recorded at least one steal during the game, with senior guards Gemma Núñez and Bailey Maupin snagging four each.
The Lady Raiders started slow during the first quarter, allowing the Cougars to lead for 2:05. After tying the game at 10-10 at the 5:14 mark, Tech went on a 14-6 scoring run to lead the Cougars by eight points at the end of the quarter.
Tech carried the momentum into the second quarter, opening up on a 14-0 scoring run. The run ended with a layup by Washington State sophomore guard Marta Alsina with 3:01 remaining in the second quarter. The Cougars ended the second quarter with four points.
The Cougars came back from halftime with a new momentum, putting up 20 points during the third quarter. Junior guard Eleonora Villa led the Cougars’ third quarter scoring efforts with eight points.
Tech stayed ahead during Washington State’s 20-point third quarter by scoring 26 points. Half of Tech’s third quarter points were scored by Maupin who ended the game with 19 total points.
Washington State was unable to outscore Tech during the fourth quarter despite holding the Lady Raiders to their lowest-scoring quarter. The Cougars put up 11 points during the fourth quarter compared to the Lady Raiders’ 12 points.
Tech junior guard/forward Jalynn Bristow earned three fouls during the fourth quarter and fouled out for the second time this season with 3:29 remaining in the game.
Washington State’s 1-10 season start is the program’s worst beginning since it lost 21 consecutive games to start the 2002-03 season, according to Washington State Athletics.
The Lady Raiders move to 11-0 for the third time in 12 years heading into a second consecutive road game against Abilene Christian University on Sunday in Odessa.
