Longhorn Cafe has been around in San Antonio in some shape or form since the 1950s, eventually growing into a staple that has locations across the city and surrounding areas. The local restaurant chain informed its customers that one of its longtime locations would be closing, leaving behind 15 years of memories.

Longhorn Cafe shared the impending closure of its location on Rittiman Road in a Facebook post on November 17, reducing the burger-focused chain’s fleet from eight locations to seven.

“It is with sadness that we inform you our Rittiman location will close. Our last day will be November 30th. Thank you for 15 years of your loyalty and patronage,” the Facebook post said.

Despite this announcement, Google still lists the location as open, so MySA attempted to call on Friday, December 12. The call did not go through, so we visited the location in person and found it completely empty with a sign posted to the inside of its windowed door with essentially the same language as the November 17 Facebook post: “It’s not goodbye, but see you down the road!”

Longhorn Cafe still maintains seven locations, including a spot at 12311 Nacogdoches Road, which is about five miles away from the former location at 1003 Rittiman Road. The San Antonio restaurants are known for their hefty burgers, chicken sandwiches and other customer favorites, including chicken-fried steak.
