HOUSTON – Police say a woman, believed to be squatting inside an apartment unit, was shot and killed after a fight with a security guard at an apartment complex near NRG Park Friday afternoon.

The shooting happened at a complex in the 2100 block of Holly Hall Street.

Police were called at 12:27 p.m.

Sgt. Charles Lamont with HPD’s Homicide Division says the call originally came in as a criminal mischief in progress, but was shortly afterwards upgraded to a shooting in progress.

Officers arrived and found a female security guard who they say had non-life threatening injuries and looked like she had been in a fight. She was taken to a hospital.

Officers entered an apartment unit and found a woman dead inside.

Police learned a contractor had entered the unit to do work and found the woman inside. The woman was not authorized to be there. The contractor then notified apartment maintenance who then notified the security guard. The security guard then entered the unit and confronted the woman.

“From talking with maintenance and the contractor who was originally here, the individual didn’t want to leave and the altercation escalated from there,” Lamont said.

Lamont says he has not talked with the security guard yet, but learned she did use a taser on the woman before the shooting happened. The entire altercation happened inside the apartment unit.

Lamont says the management told officers the unit where the woman was had not been occupied since October, when they took over the complex.

Officers will be speaking to the security guard to try and find out more information about what happened that led to the shooting.
